Help us get started

Ever face a rough day after a rough night of sleep? Were you as successful in facing the challenges of that day as you could’ve been if you had slept? For those who are homeless or in a low-income situation, all days and nights are rough. Today you can help us improve someone’s sleep, because they already have enough to struggle with during the day. When we each give a little, we can change a lot.

______________

With the costs of living rising, not all people can afford the luxury of a house or a quality mattress. In 2019, an average of 15,800 people experienced homelessness on any given day in Oregon. Shelters are already fully inundated with the effects of homelessness and are still struggling to meet the needs of these people. 5,814 beds are needed to bridge the gap between the resources the state-wide shelters provide and the needs of those experiencing homelessness.

In addition, 8.2% of Washington County’s population lives in poverty, unable to obtain the basic resources needed. Many of those affected by poverty can’t afford a quality mattress to help them obtain a decent rest to prepare them for the demands of rising living costs.

Initially, Mattresses in Reach (MIR) will provide quality mattresses to local shelters in the Beaverton and Hillsboro communities to help bridge the resource gap. As MIR’s reach expands, we plan to provide quality mattresses to shelters in Portland and its surrounding communities. Simultaneously, we will provide mattresses to those who are in housing or transitioning to housing and demonstrate a need for resources due to poverty.
